Randomization Tools

Applies to: Yes or No Wheel, Coin Flip, 8-Ball, Pendulum, Pick a Card (initial shuffle)

How results are generated

These tools use JavaScript's built-in Math.random() function to generate results. This is a pseudo-random number generator (PRNG) โ€” it produces a number between 0 and 1 each time it is called.

For yes/no outcomes: numbers below 0.5 produce one result, numbers at or above 0.5 produce the other. This gives a statistically equal probability for each outcome across a large number of spins โ€” each result is independent of the previous one.

Where processing happens

All randomization runs in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server. No result is stored or logged. When you close the page, the result is gone.

What Math.random() is โ€” and is not

Not cryptographically secure. Math.random() is a standard browser PRNG. It is statistically unpredictable for practical purposes, but it is not a cryptographically secure random number generator (CSPRNG). It is appropriate for decision tools, entertainment, and randomization games โ€” it is not appropriate for security-sensitive applications (generating passwords, encryption keys, etc.).

Wheel spin animation

The wheel adds 5โ€“7 extra full rotations plus a random final angle before stopping, to make the spin feel natural. The outcome is calculated before the animation starts โ€” the animation is visual only and does not affect the result.

Tarot Card Tools

Applies to: Tarot Yes or No, Tarot Yes or No Reading, 3-Card Tarot, Pick a Card, Tarot Yes or No by Number (2โ€“10)

Deck composition

The tarot tools use a 78-card deck. This is verified from the code, which declares a complete 78-card array including both Major and Minor Arcana.

Card selection

Cards are drawn using Math.random() applied to the full deck array. Each draw is independent โ€” drawing one card does not affect the probability of any card appearing on the next draw.

Upright and reversed cards

Each card drawn has a 50% probability of appearing reversed. This is implemented as: Math.random() < 0.5. Reversed cards carry a modified interpretation within the tool (typically shifting YES toward MAYBE or NO, and vice versa, depending on the card).

YES / NO / MAYBE assignments

Each card in the deck is assigned a YES, NO, or MAYBE energy. These assignments are built into the card data array in the code. For example: The Sun is assigned YES, The Tower is assigned NO, The High Priestess is assigned MAYBE.

Source of tarot meanings not yet documented. The YES/NO/MAYBE assignments for each card are present in the codebase, but the specific source or tradition these assignments were based on has not been formally documented. The assignments reflect commonly recognized tarot symbolism, but we cannot currently point to a specific reference, author, or tradition as the definitive source. This is flagged for future documentation.

3-Card Spread

The 3-card spread draws three independent cards representing past influence, present situation, and likely outcome. Each card is drawn from the same 78-card pool using separate Math.random() calls. Cards can repeat across positions.

Daily Tarot

Applies to: Daily Tarot Yes or No (/daily-tarot-yes-or-no/)

How the daily card is selected

The Daily Tarot tool uses a date-based seeding method. The current date (year, month, day) is converted to a numeric seed using this formula:

seed = year ร— 10000 + (month ร— 100) + day

The seed is then passed through a deterministic transformation (Math.sin(seed) ร— 10000) to produce a consistent position in the card deck for that date. The result: the same card appears for all users on the same calendar date. The card changes at midnight (local device time).

Why date-seeding is used

A date-based seed means the Daily Tarot functions as a genuine "one card per day" experience โ€” the same card appears whether you visit at 8am or 10pm on the same day, and changes the next morning. This is a deliberate design choice, not randomization.

Note on "randomness": The Daily Tarot is not random in the same way as the other tarot tools. It is deterministic per date โ€” the same card for the same day, every time. This is verified from the implementation code.

AI Yes or No Tool

Applies to: AI Yes or No (/ai-yes-or-no/)

How the AI tool works

The AI Yes or No tool is designed to send your question to an external AI model (Claude Sonnet by Anthropic) via the Anthropic Messages API. The model reads your question, applies a structured reasoning prompt, and returns a YES/NO/MAYBE answer with a brief explanation and suggested next step.

What happens to your question

Unlike the randomization and tarot tools, the AI tool transmits your question text to Anthropic's servers for processing. Your question leaves your browser when you use this tool. Anthropic's privacy policy governs how that data is handled on their side.

Model used

The tool is implemented to use claude-sonnet-4-6. This is not a fine-tuned model โ€” it is a general-purpose language model instructed to produce a yes/no/maybe response with reasoning specific to your question.

Current status โ€” implementation issue. The AI Yes or No tool requires authenticated access to the Anthropic API. This authentication cannot be securely implemented in browser-side code without exposing a private API key to users. The current implementation is missing the authentication header required for the API to function. As a result, the AI tool is not currently functioning as intended. It requires a server-side proxy implementation to work securely. This is a known technical limitation being tracked for resolution. Until this is resolved, results from the AI tool may not be returned correctly.
